The other struggle has occurred between bioethicists and the law. It would be difficult to imagine that bioethics was safe in a country that has more lawyers than Germany and France combined. Jurists, naturally, do have a role in this field, but that is limited to health law. The problem is that – in a very Mediterranean way – jurists tend to identify ethics with the law and reduce morality to legality.
